MONTAGUE — The Turners Falls softball team had an early lead, but ultimately lost to Minnechaug, 8-3, at Mullins Field on Friday night in a Franklin East matchup.
The Thunder (4-3, 3-2) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI triple from Autumn DiMare and an RBI double from Madisyn Dietz. The Falcons took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the third.

Autumn Thornton pitched seven innings for Turners Falls. The freshman gave up seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Thornton added an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning for Turners Falls. With two outs, Ameilya Galbraith drew a walk before DiMare’s triple.

Brooklyn Rosa had a two RBI single in the third inning for the Falcons. Megan Pronovost and Adrielle Sheridan had back-to-back RBI hits for Minnechaug in the fourth. Abigail Camire added a sacrifice fly to make the score 7-3 in the top of the seventh.
Second baseman Addison Talbot caught a liner and doubled up the Minnechaug runner at first base to get the Thunder out of the inning. Turners Falls got runners on base in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t capitalize.
Frontier 13, South Hadley 1 (six innings) — Raine Wonsey struck out 14 hitters in a Franklin East win over the Golden Hawks in South Deerfield. Riley Tine continued her hot streak for Frontier (9-0, 4-0), hitting a homer with five RBIs. Skyler Steele went 2-for-2 with a double, a homer and four RBI. Adelaide Ehle added a hit with two RBI. Sadie Nichols connected on a hit that scored two runs for the Redhawks.
Mahar 9, Commerce 5 — The Senators stayed unbeaten in Tri County play with a home win over the Raiders. Lexi Ares pitched seven innings of one hit ball with 10 strikeouts. Mackenzie launched a homer for the Senators (5-2, 4-0).
Chicopee 4, Greenfield 3 — The Green Wave made a late charge, but fell short against the Pacers in independent play at Szot Park. Olivia Lemay gave up seven hits in six innings with six strikeouts. Meghan Collins had a hit and an RBI for Greenfield (3-5).
Pioneer 12, Lee 0 (five innings)— Jacobia Tyminski went 3-for-4 for the Panthers in the win over the Wildcats in Northfield. Lucianne Burnap, Jaelyn Boliski, Ryleigh Goodwin and Kiara Gruszkowski had RBI hits in the second inning for Pioneer. Jaelyn Boliski got the win in the circle, giving up three hits with four strikeouts in five innings. Maggie Tsipenyuk also had three hits for the Panthers (3-4).
Baseball
Greenfield 11, Athol 1 (five innings) — The Green Wave handled the Bears at Vets Field in a Suburban East match up. Caleb Kimberly pitched five innings for Greenfield (5-2, 2-1) in the win, giving up four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Bodie Burke (double), Chase Zraunig (two RBI) and Luca Siano (two RBI) had two hits each for the Greenfield. Urijah Jenness added another two hits with an RBI. Oliver Johnson had two with a double for Athol (0-6, 0-4).
Frontier 11, Hopkins Academy 4 — The Redhawks handed the Golden Hawks their first loss of the season in Hadley in a Suburban East match up. Henry Drinker and Grayson Bishop (two RBI) had two hits each for Frontier (5-2, 2-1). Braiden Dion added a double. Frontier scored five runs in the fourth inning to pull away. Frontier successfully used the safety squeeze to score four runs.
Girls tennis
Frontier 3, Pope Francis 2 — Brooke Charest and Hailey Fernandez clinched the win over the Cardinals in South Deerfield. Charest and Fernandez remain undefeated for the Redhawks in doubles play. Ella Sibley won in No. 3 singles while Ester Ehle and Jimin Aha won in No. 2 doubles for Frontier (7-2, 3-1 Pioneer).
Volleyball
Duggan Academy 3, Frontier 1 — Nate Rivera had 19 kills, but the Redhawks lost in Springfield. Set scores were 25-18, 17-25, 25-20 and 25-23. Ethan Rivera had 21 assists while Sean Eich-Richardson helped the defense with 12 digs for Frontier (0-10, 0-7 East)
