HEATH — With its inaugural Community Resource Fair on Saturday, April 18, the town hopes to bring community members together and make them aware of the local opportunities and resources that are available.

The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jacobs Road Municipal Center. Sheila Litchfield, one of the main organizers of the event and a former Selectboard member, said 46 organizations from the town will be present, and that residents may be surprised by the number of opportunities that exist in Heath.

“People need to know what their fellow residents are doing to keep a town moving,” Litchfield said. “There’s a lot happening [and] things do change. There will be something for everyone.”

When people arrive at the fair, Litchfield said they’ll be given a list of events and demonstrations taking place throughout the building. These will include learning how to get involved in community-wide volunteering efforts.

Initially, the event was envisioned as a “way to get people together,” according to Litchfield, and it “later developed into a resource fair to let people know what was available to them.” After a long winter, she said it will be nice to get people out of their houses and moving, even if flowers aren’t blooming yet.

“There’s the Heath Fair, which is a fall event, there’s the Heath Town Meeting … There really isn’t a fun springtime event,” Litchfield noted.

The event will also offer activities for children, too. Kids will have the chance to climb on a fire truck and learn how it operates, and Shelburne Fire Chief John Taylor will host a demonstration on electrical and cooking safety. There will also be community members reading stories to children throughout the event.

Other demonstrations will include the Parks & Recreation Committee educating residents on the rules of pickleball and badminton in the gymnasium, and members of the Hilltown Youth Recovery Theatre will perform acrobatics.

“It’s free, fun [and there’s] something for everyone of all ages,” Litchfield said. “[There’s] things that people didn’t know were available to them.”
