Next roast beef dinner set for April 11
BERNARDSTON — The United Church of Bernardston’s next Second Saturday Roast Beef Supper will be held Saturday, April 11, with seatings at 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. The church is located at 58 Church St. (Route 10).
This marks the final supper of the season. Each meal, which costs $15, includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, rolls and dessert.

Thomas Aquinas Children’s Choir to perform
NORTHFIELD — The Thomas Aquinas Children’s Choir will perform in the Children’s Room at Dickinson Memorial Library on Friday, April 10, at 4 p.m.
The program is presented by the library and Neighbors at Home. Light refreshments will be available.
St. Patrick’s Church offering meatloaf meals
NORTHFIELD — St. Patrick’s Church at 80 Main St. will offer to-go meatloaf meals on Saturday, April 18, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Each meal, which costs $15, includes meatloaf, a baked potato, green beans, a roll and dessert. Everything is made in house by parishioners.

NORTHFIELD — Cyber Seniors specialist Anne Wiley will lead a discussion on safe web searches, text and email safety, and protecting privacy and security online at the Northfield Senior Center on Tuesday, April 14, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Workshops to explore painting sparrows with watercolors
BERNARDSTON — My Art Company will present a pair of workshops on painting sparrows using watercolors at the Bernardston Senior Center on Tuesdays, April 14 and April 21, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

This month’s workshops will focus on understanding atmospheric perspective, improving brushwork techniques and adding depth in a watercolor painting using lights and darks.
Space is limited to 10 per workshop. Early sign-up is advised by calling 413-648-5413, but participants are asked to sign up for only one workshop.
An additional open painting session is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, at 12:30 p.m. to allow workshop participants to finish work that they started in the previous sessions. Sign-ups are required and assistance will be limited.
Dave Herrara to provide music at next Memory Cafe
NORTHFIELD — Dave Herrara will provide live music during the next Memory Cafe at the Northfield Senior Center on Wednesday, April 22, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
This program provides support and socialization for adults dealing with memory-related issues and their caregivers. A light lunch will be provided.

April 27: Katie Clark and Larry LeBlanc to perform
BERNARDSTON — Katie Clark and Larry LeBlanc will perform at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, April 27, at 3 p.m., followed by dinner at 4 p.m.
The duo performs on mandolin, dobro, guitar and banjo, bringing old-time country and bluegrass favorites along with Clark’s originals.

April 29: Learn about Medicare Advantage plans
NORTHFIELD — A representative from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts will visit the Northfield Senior Center on Wednesday, April 29, at 11:30 a.m. to discuss Medicare Advantage plans and the benefits associated with them, as well as the differences between HMOs and PPOs.
Public health nurse to discuss brain health
NORTHFIELD — Meg Ryan, a public health nurse with the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG) and a community educator for the Alzheimer’s Association, will present “Take Charge of Your Brain Health” at the Northfield Senior Center on Thursday, April 30, at 11 a.m.

About 11% of people over the age of 65 in Massachusetts have Alzheimer’s disease and this number is expected to continue rising. Dementia is caused by brain changes that can start decades before a person exhibits symptoms. However, there are lifestyle changes that can delay onset of disease.
Ryan’s presentation will discuss cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and the risk factors that affect the chances of getting dementia. Most of the time will be spent looking at lifestyle choices that reduce the risk of developing dementia, the latest research supporting lifestyle changes to protect brain health and why it is important for everyone to take action.
Bernardston opts out of mail-in voting for May 4 election
BERNARDSTON — At the recommendation of the Board of Registrars, the Selectboard voted in March to opt out of mail-in voting for the May 4 town election.
Absentee ballots will still be available, and must be requested by Tuesday, April 28. Early in-person voting will also be offered and the schedule will be posted on the town events calendar at townofbernardston.org/calendar.
