MONTAGUE — In cooperation with the state Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Fire Control District 9, the fire departments of Montague Center and Turners Falls, and other partners, MassWildlife plans to conduct a controlled burn at the Montague Plains Wildlife Management Area on Friday, March 20.

The purpose of the prescribed fire is to improve wildlife habitat, reduce wildfire risk and provide firefighter training, according to a notice from MassWildlife’s Prescribed Fire Project Leader Alex Entrup. Residents are advised that they may observe smoke in the area, though the fire may be canceled if local weather conditions change.
