School Committee extends Rowe tuition agreement
BUCKLAND — The Mohawk Trail Regional School District School Committee and the Rowe School Committee have agreed to extend the tuition agreement for Rowe students attending Mohawk Trail Regional School by one year.
Mohawk Trail Business Administrator William Lataille told the Mohawk Trail School Committee last week that the process to rework the tuition agreement did not start soon enough to be reflected in the fiscal year 2027 budget, so the committees needed to agree to extend their agreement by one year. They intend to look at changing the agreement for the FY28 budget. For FY27, Rowe will pay $274,000 in tuition to Mohawk Trail.
“The Rowe tuition agreement was scheduled to be redone for next year, but time has slipped by with all the work we’re doing on the budget and everything else,” Lataille explained. “By the time I realized we should have redone it, we were already too far into the budget process and it would have been too much to try to get that done.”
The agreement states that the tuition rate shall be “the aggregate average per pupil assessment based upon the five (5) year rolling average enrollment.” Rowe shall be responsible for the transportation costs for its students, and Mohawk Trail “will be responsible for all in-district and out-of- district special education costs as those costs are included in the member town assessment formula.”
The agreement adds that Rowe may appoint one of its School Committee members as a representative who attends Mohawk Trail School Committee meetings, but that representative does not have a voting role on the committee.
