March 10 presentation to discuss redevelopment of former Farren Care Center

MONTAGUE — Residents are invited to attend a presentation hosted by the Urban Land Institute at the Shea Theater Arts Center, 71 Avenue A, on Tuesday, March 10 at 6 p.m.

Attendees will have the chance to learn about what senior-level land use and real estate professionals believe is the best practice for redeveloping the former Farren Care Center site on Montague City Road, and ask questions of the professionals.

This public session will follow a daylong meeting between town officials and the Urban Land Institute as part of its Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) program that will “help the town determine the best redevelopment strategy that balances economic feasibility with community goals,” the event notice explains.

Erving Senior & Community Center to host performance by Jarice Hanson

ERVING — A performance highlighting the life of Frances Perkins, a pioneer of the 40-hour work week, child labor laws and Social Security who is also well-known as the woman behind the New Deal, will be presented by Jarice Hanson at the Erving Senior & Community Center, 1 Care Drive, on Thursday, March 12, at 1 p.m.

This performance showcases the life of Perkins, who grew up in Worcester and was the longest-serving U.S. secretary of labor from 1933 to 1945. She was also the first woman to serve in a presidential cabinet, breaking the glass ceiling for women after voting rights were expanded in 1920. Hanson has researched and written the performance herself.

This event is free and open to the public, with space limited to 75 people.

Franklin County Musicians Cooperative to perform at Discovery Center

TURNERS FALLS — The Franklin County Musicians Cooperative, also called The Coopsters, will perform at the Great Falls Discovery Center, 2 Avenue A, on Saturday, March 14, at 7 p.m. as part of the Great Falls Coffeehouse series.

The group is made up of local musicians performing a mix of folk, rock, country, jazz and swing music, with some originals and covers.

There is a suggested donation of between $5 and $15, with children admitted free of charge. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and refreshments will be available.

ERVING — The Erving Senior & Community Center is hosting a Lucky Leprechaun Luncheon on Thursday, March 26, at noon, with dishes like Guinness beef stew, Irish soda bread and dessert for $8 per person.
