During the winter, Lucas and Landon Allenby’s freeskiing skills have paid off in heavy weight when it comes to medals coming back to Greenfield.
The eighth-grade twin brothers spent their entire winter catching air and doing tricks at various events participating in the USASA Southern Vermont Series (SVS).
At the SVS event at Okemo Mountain Resort held over the weekend, Landon Allenby brought home a gold medal in the halfpipe. But he wasn’t done there, as he brought home a silver in slopestyle, rails and the halfpipe.
Lucas Allenby took home the bronze in the second halfpipe. Over the course of the winter, Lucas and Landon Allenby have combined for over a dozen medals at various events for the Southern Vermont Series. Landon Allenby was the Southern Vermont Series champion in the halfpipe last season.
The twins do most of their training at Carinthia Parks at Mount Snow in West Dover, Vt. After regional competition comes to a close, they will head to Nationals at Copper Mountain in Colorado. The event, which begins in April, can be live-streamed.
Girls basketball
Frontier 25, Chicopee 19 โ The second-seeded Redhawks advanced with a home win over the Pacers in the fifth and sixth grade girls Suburban league playoffs on Sunday.
Relentless full-court man-to-man pressure defense powered the Redhawks to the win. Frontier never trailed in the victory. Grace Barshefsky led all scorers with a game-high 10 points, while Heidi Benson added six points.
Gymnastics
The Tumbling Tigers gymnastics team participated in three events recently with excellent results. At the Clark Ribbon Meet in Winchendon on March 1, level one gymnasts captured first place All-Around. Level three gymnasts Isabel Scoon, Salem Sucharzewski and Aurora Clark took first, second and third in all events.
At the Battle in Boston held between Feb. 20-22 in Beantown, level two gymnasts Chloe Ainsworth, Christa Harris, Rowan Madden-Ceccarossi, and Perkins Crowley earned second place team All-Around.
At the Sweetheart Competition held between Feb. 13-15 in Goffstown N.H., level four gymnasts wonย first place All-Around while level two tookย second place team All-Around.
Knights of Columbus Hoop Shoot
The Knights of Columbus Greenfield Council #133 hosted the Western Mass. Hoop Shoot on February 14 at the Franklin County YMCA. The Athol Council of Knights joined the event with participants that had moved on from Districts. The following players moved on to state level competition on March 21 at the Franklin County YMCA at 1 p.m.: Nine-year old, Miles Carlson (Athol); 10-year-old, Lucas Boucher (Athol); 11-year-old, Savannah Thomas (Greenfield); 11-year-old, Auston Lyesiuk (Athol); 13-year-old, Alberto Santiago Jr. (Athol).

Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley
Here are the scores from the rollers in Shelburne Falls for week ending Feb. 27. In Sunday Scotch Doubles, Scott Schneider and Kendall Schneider rolled a 113 in high single and a 309 in high triple.
In Wednesday’s Mixed League Samantha Roberts scored a 97 in high single and a 269 in high triple. Erich Price carded a 111 in high single and a 309 in high triple. In Thursday’s Mixed League, Colleen Barrows rolled a 110 in high single and a 307 in high triple. Matt Gilbert carded a 134 in high single while Scott Schneider rolled a 371 in high triple.
Greenfield Elks Pitch League
Here are the standings after matches played on Feb. 25: first place: Bob Ferris (25 points); second place: Tim Wondoloski, Jim Elwell, Neil Black (24 points); third place: Todd Goulet, Jim Burke and Doug Houle (23 points).
Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon
The 13th Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon will be held Saturday, March 28, at Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont. Registration is now open for all categories; Bravehearts, who do the entire course solo, family teams, and teams of 2-5. Discounted entry fees for family teams and entrants under 19-years old.
The five events are a 4.5-mile trail run, 18-mile road cycle ride, 2+ mile paddle, 2-mile adventure run and a climb up, ski down leg. Online discounted registration is at BikeReg.com. The event is in need of volunteers. This yearโs benefactor is the Good Neighbors Food Pantry.
