Turners Falls, MA – Deirdre A. (Strange) Campbell, age 76, a longtime resident of Turners Falls, Massachusetts, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at RegalCare in Greenfield, MA.
Born in Greenfield, she was the daughter of the late Marjorie (St. Cyr) McCrea and Edward McCrea. Known to many as “Dee Dee,” she grew up in Turners Falls, attended local schools, and graduated from Turners Falls High School. She later attended hairdressing school in Springfield, beginning a career she would continue for decades.
A dedicated and talented hairdresser, Dee Dee worked with Carol Demers in the Patch and later for many years at Hazel’s Beauty Salon and Walters Beauty Shop. She also worked part-time in the deli at Big Y before retiring in 2014. Through her work, she formed lasting friendships and became a familiar presence in her community.
Dee Dee had a generous spirit and found joy in giving to others. She was thoughtful and quick to return any kindness shown to her. She instilled these values in her children and grandchildren, teaching them the importance of gratitude, handwritten thank-you notes, and caring for others. Her kindness was quiet and constant.
She was the beloved wife of 54 years to John D. Campbell; loving mother of Tracie Campbell Kosakowski and her husband Peter of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and David Campbell of Greenfield; devoted grandmother to Cassandra and Bennett Kosakowski, and Emma and Riley Campbell. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Stephen Dalton of Middleborough, as well as Daniel Campbell (Sandy) and Nancy (James) Andreas, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Susan Dalton and Margaret Platek.
Dee Dee did not wish for a funeral, as she never liked to be the center of attention. Interment services will be private.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care she received from the nurses and staff at RegalCare during her final weeks, as well as the support of Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Munson St., Suite 103, Greenfield, MA 01301. https://pioneervalleyhospice.org/
