Bertha A. Choiniere

Greenfield, MA – Bertha Alita Choiniere passed away in her home with family by her side after a long illness on February 16, 2026, at 81 years old. Known to many as “Bert” she was born on May 14, 1944, to Alma Adams and Herbert Adams. She was the second oldest with two sisters and four brothers. She grew up in Turners Falls and graduated from TFHS.

At 17 years old she met her late husband Donald “Mike” Choiniere on a double date where they were there with the other people. Despite not being each other’s dates, they quickly formed a loving connection that blossomed into marriage a year later. They lovingly shared 54 years together, starting their life in Turners Falls, having three children, and settling permanently in Greenfield in 1980. Their home was the host of many family gatherings and pig roasts. It was a place where family and friends felt comfortable and loved.

She was a bookkeeper for several local businesses throughout her career, most notably at Escott’s service station and B Rubin’s and sons simultaneously. During that time, she built many lasting friendships that she held very dear.

Bert’s family and friends were her main focus and greatest joy. Having 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. She brought a smile and open heart wherever she went and will forever be remembered for that smile, her sense of humor, generosity and open heart. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed mind-challenging puzzles and card games.

Bert is survived by her sons, Donald “Butch” Choiniere and Brian Choiniere; her sister Rita (Adams) Deyo; her grandchildren Donald Joslyn, Katelyn (Choiniere) Gerry, Brandon Choiniere and Jessica Choiniere; great grandchildren Abigail Joslyn, Aiden Joslyn, Ashton Joslyn, Tristan Towe and Whitney Towe.

She is predeceased by her husband Donald “Mike” Choiniere, son Robert Choiniere, Mother Alma Adams, Father Herbert Adams, brothers Herbert Adams, Leonard Adams, Paul Adams and Rogert Adams and sister Theresa Wright.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 25 at 11AM at Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield. Burial will follow in Green River Cemetery.

A calling hour will be held from 10AM until service time at 11AM.
