Transfer Station gates to close at 3:45 p.m.

COLRAIN — Colrain residents now need to be at the transfer station by 3:45 p.m. in order to drop off their rubbish, a change that went into effect Feb. 14.

Station hours will still be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, however the last cars will be admitted into the station at 3:45 p.m. The Colrain Selectboard voted unanimously last week to add this caveat to the station hours. Board members said that 15 minutes should be plenty of time for residents who come at the last call to unload their trash and recyclables, and be out of the station by 4 p.m. so station attendants can close and leave by 4:30 p.m.

Board members said lately, residents have been showing up just a few minutes before 4 p.m., leading to station attendants needing to stay later. Closing the gate at 3:45 p.m. will allow attendants to leave on time and the town to stay on budget.
