Fine for snow on streets increased to $25

NORTHFIELD — The Selectboard has voted to increase the fine imposed on residents who leave snow and ice from private property on town streets to $25.

Town Administrator Andrea Llamas told the board last week that the fine under the policy enacted in 1977 has traditionally been $10, and Highway Superintendent Tom Walker requested that it be increased to further discourage residents from shoveling or blowing snow from their property into the streets.

“No person shall throw or cause to be thrown, or put any snow or ice from any privately owned property, onto any street, land, alley or other person’s property,” the policy states.
