The Amherst Regional girls swimming team took second place at the MIAA Central/West Swimming and Diving Championships at Springfield College on Sunday evening.
The Hurricanes had a huge day, finishing the meet in second place overall with 248 points. Four different swimmers cleared 30 points individually, with Rowan Albertson leading the way with 34.
Albertson earned second place in the 50 freestyle (23.97) and the 100 backstroke (59.01), while contributing to her team nabbing the top spot in the 400 freestyle relay.
Emory Albertson, Audrey Spiridopoulos and Finnley Chambers rounded out the group who finished first in the relay at 3:42.34. Spiridopoulos took home second in the 100 freestyle (1:00.56) and the 200 individual medley (2:18.03) as well.
Chambers came in second in the 200 freestyle (1:58.73), while helping her squad in their second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.02) along with Teagen Demers, Lindsay Franz and Lily Wambura.
Demers earned second in the 200 individual medley at 2:15.97 and third in the 100 breaststroke at 1:11.73. Emory Albertson took home fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:18.56) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.19).
The Orioles girls finished in fifth place on the day with 129 points overall. Natalie Parent nabbed the top spot in the 100 backstroke (58.59), along with second in the 100 freestyle (53.11).
Grace Perron took home third in the 50 freestyle (24.38) and the 500 freestyle (5:10.95). Both Parent and Perron were joined by Kylie Fitzgerald and Addyson Thomas for a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay at (1:59.40). Thomas and the duo joined Margaret Wheeler in the team’s fifth-place performance in the 400 freestyle relay (3:54.79).
The Blue Devils girls tallied 57 points, good for 15th overall, led by Elise Marks, who earned third place in the one-meter diving at 341.45.
Rounding out the day was the Eagles girls, with Karolina Robak earning all of the team’s 22 points for a 20th-place finish on the day. Robak took home eighth place in both the 200 freestyle (2:08.53) and the 100 freestyle (58.00).
Turners Falls competed in a pair of relays, taking 14th place (1:53.20) in the 200 free relay and 18th place (2:10.14) in the medley relay.
The Thunder concluded with six points altogether.
Next week, several local swimmers will compete at the MIAA Division 2 State Swimming and Diving Championships at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Zesiger Center in Cambridge next Saturday, Feb. 14.
Doors will open at 2:30 p.m., and the meet is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m.
