I understand that a state or governor cannot dictate federal policy, but Massachusetts could declare a “Celebrate Immigrants” commonwealth holiday. Perhaps a day in March or August, when there are no federal holidays. Best of all might be July 5, in the midst of the 250th celebrations, for without immigrants most of us would not be here.

This is clearly a token gesture on one level, but it could be a very powerful message of what Massachusetts stands for. Let’s ask the governor to make this happen.
