GILL โ€” The town is maintaining its single tax rate for fiscal year 2026, after the Selectboard approved the Board of Assessors’ recommendation to set the tax rate at $14.91 per $1,000 valuation, with no open space discounts or residential or small commercial exemptions.

Board of Assessors Chair William Tomb explained to the Selectboard on Monday that the average tax bill for single-family homeowners will be $5,029, representing a $333 increase from FY25. The average single-family home valuation is also up 5.8% from last year, with an average value of $337,267.

Tomb noted that the Board of Assessors doesn’t recommend the open space discount, residential exemptions or small commercial exemptions.

“The assessors have not taken any action to activate these discounts and exemptions, which is part of the fact that we do support a single tax rate,” Tomb said.

According to Massachusetts Department of Revenue data, the town has seen an increase in the average single-family tax bill since FY17, but Gill still ranks as one of the lower tax bills out of the 351 municipalities in the state.
