First, as a resident of Precinct 3, I’d like to thank City Councilor Michael Mastrototaro for serving as city councilor, since that’s what one does on such occasions, and it’s no doubt a non-trivial time commitment being a councilor. Good for you for taking on public service.
That said, I’m very curious what are the views the City Council majority holds that he feels are out of sync with those of the majority of residents and how he came to that conclusion. Could it be that they disagree with the idea of making the U.S. Navy the primary energy supplier for the region (“Council OKs climate change resolution,” Aug. 23, 2025, in this paper)? I’ve not lived here all that long, but I’d not be overly surprised if the majority of Greenfield residents might — I say might — find that to be a remarkably stupid statement to add to the superfund resolution debate, at least based on my limited experience.
But I could be wrong. For instance, perhaps they are swayed by the Navy’s graciousness in apologizing to San Francisco residents for taking 11 months to disclose the discovery of Plutonium 239 at the Hunter Point Naval Shipyard. Perhaps residents here are of the kind who really value those who own up to their mistakes. I don’t know. I’m not a pollster.
Good luck in your musical career, Councilor Mastrototaro.
