ERVING — After a monthslong process of migrating website data to a new hosting service, Erving’s town website has a new look.

The business that hosted the town’s former website was purchased by CivicPlus, a company that hosts government websites, and Town Administrator Bryan Smith said that with the business change, the town was able to start the process of migrating content from the other platform to CivicPlus over the summer.

“This project started in July, and content migration began in November after they did the design work, [and] training was in December,” Smith said. “So this has been a long project, but I think overall, it’s coming together.”

Smith said the main changes to the website include an updated visual presentation, with some departments, like the Erving Public Library, Erving Senior & Community Center and Erving Police Department, having newly designed pages. Residents are also able to create an account on the website and sign up to receive notifications about meetings or updates from different town departments.

Smith noted the process of managing the site on the back end has become more streamlined. He said any of the final data migrations from the previous website should be finished by the end of the week.

Looking to the future, the town hopes to launch an online licensing platform for residents to apply for and renew licenses. The Recreation Department will also soon have its own website for program registration sometime in February, Smith said.

“We’re eager to have people check it out and give us feedback,” he said, “and we recognize that people want to do more online and are looking for services when Erving Town Hall is closed, and so the more that we can make that available to folks, we’re interested.”

The new town website is available to view at erving-ma.gov.
