‘Fabulous ’40s Films’ at Garden Cinemas continues with ‘Citizen Kane’ on Jan. 5
GREENFIELD — Every first Monday of the month, the Garden Cinemas screens a classic 1940s movie as part of the ongoing “Fabulous ’40s Films” series.
The first movie of 2026 is “Citizen Kane,” a 1941 drama that explores the life of fictional newspaper tycoon Charles Foster Kane, played by Orson Welles. Welles not only acted in the movie, but he also directed the film.
As part of the series, local film and theater historian Jonathan Boschen provides a brief introduction to the movie and discusses the film’s history.
Boschen previously hosted the “Talking Talkies” series at the Garden Cinemas during the autumn of 2024 and winter of 2025, which focused on sharing movies from the 1930s. Beyond Boschen’s work at the Garden Cinemas, he has given presentations on film history and has also had articles on film and theater history published.
Boschen’s introduction starts at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, and the screening of “Citizen Kane” will immediately follow. Admission is $11 for adults, and $8.50 for senior citizens and students. Children ages 14 and under will be admitted for free.
