CHARLEMONT — Voters will be asked to approve spending $200,830 on a project to repair the town tennis court at a special Town Meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting will commence at 6 p.m. at the Hawlemont Regional School, located just off Route 2, to vote on the single article on the warrant.

Town Administrator Sarah Reynolds said the article will ask voters to approve the spending; however, the project will be funded with a mix of state funds, including a recently awarded Parklands Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) grant.

“Basically, we got a grant for the tennis courts, and $100,000 for the project will come from the grant, and the other approximately $100,000 is coming from a recreation earmark we received,” Reynolds said. “It’s gonna be a 200,000 project when we’re done.”

If voters approve the spending, the town will be able to repair cracks in the court, located just in front of the Hawlemont Regional School, resurface the court, and paint lines to accommodate tennis, basketball and pickleball games. The project also will include installing basketball hoops and pathways and benches compliant with the American With Disabilities Act [ADA].

“We’re gonna do the resurfacing and add the ADA pathways and benches,” Reynolds said. “It’s nothing drastic.”
