Steven R. Burns

Montague, MA – Steven “Steve” Robert Burns, born July 19,1951 in Montague, MA, passed away November 17, 2025 in Greensboro, NC at the age of 74.

Steve worked 38 years for Northeast Util/First Light at various stations along the Connecticut River, retiring as Shift Supervisor, at Northfield Mtn Hydro Electric Underground Power Plant 2008.

After retirement, he was “recruited” by close friends to join the Montague Ctr Volunteer Fire Dept. Steve loved being a part of the Fire Dept family and serving the community. He received 2 “Save Awards” in the almost 10 yrs served.

Steve had many hobbies, Riding his Harley motorcycles – including 3 trips to Sturgis, Hunting, being a Master DIYer, and was always known as “Tool Man”.

While Steve enjoyed living 60+ yrs in Western Mass, he also enjoyed the last 7 years living in North Carolina.

Steve leaves his wife of 33 years, Margaret (Peg) Kells, married April 4th, 1992. They have been together for 41 years. Steve also leaves his mother, Doris Burns of Turners Falls, MA, children Marianne Burns Muncy (Cecil) of Lexington, NC, Tracy (Fred) Stasurak of Gibsonville, NC, Robyn (Roger) Lisenby of St. Petersburg, FL and his “Bonus” daughter Shannon (Andy) Zimmerman of Seminole, FL, sister Kathy Burns (Mike) Griffin of Greenfield, MA and sister-in-law Jodi (Charlie) DiGennaro of Palm Bay, FL. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Steve was predeceased by his father Robert Burns and two sisters, Cheryl and Marilyn.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Massachusetts in the spring, details will be sent.
