Gill, MA – George Douglas Shebell, 74, of 405 Jones Cemetery Road, Orange, MA, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025 following a period of declining health. A native of Greenfield, Doug was born on April 17th, 1951 to Charles and Marjorie Shebell and was educated in Greenfield Public Schools, attending the former Abercrombie School in East Greenfield. He was a lifelong resident of Gill, MA, where he resided with his parents and siblings.
Douglas was employed for 20 years, for the former Howard Johnson’s Restaurant in Greenfield and for Stop & Shop and Mayhew Steel. He will be forever remembered for his humor and infectious smile. He enjoyed puzzles, stamp and coin collecting, car shows, eagle watching, bowling and his many outings with his caregivers.
Douglas is survived by his brother, Donald A. Shebell of Gill, MA, his Aunt Bernice Brooks of Leyden, MA and several cousins and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Marjorie Shebell, as well as his sister Pamela Shebell.
A special “thank you” with loving gratitude to the staff and caregivers, who showered Doug with kindness, affection and their undivided attention over the many years. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of his family with inurnment to take place in the Riverside Cemetery, Gill, MA in the Spring of 2026. A Celebration of Doug’s Life will take place at a later date.
