SHELBURNE โ Three people were transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center Thursday afternoon after a Subaru with two elderly occupants and a Saab with a male driver collided on Route 2, resulting in the state highwayโs temporary closure, according to Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan.
Although the front end of the Saab appeared to have sustained significant damage and the Subaru, turned over on its side, was heavily damaged, Strahan said the occupantsโ injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening following the head-on collision.

Massachusetts State Police blocked off a portion of Route 2 near Trailside Veterinary Services, at 116 Mohawk Trail, at approximately 2:30 p.m. as the Shelburne Police Department, South County EMS, Greenfield Fire Department, Shelburne Falls Fire Rescue and Colrain Ambulance responded, clearing debris from the road.
Shelburne Police Officer Jeffrey Belanger, who responded to the scene, declined to comment, noting the crash was under investigation.
