Cornucopia Auction set for Saturday

CHARLEMONT — The Academy at Charlemont’s annual Cornucopia Auction is set for Saturday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the school, located at 1359 Route 2.

Attendees can peruse and bid on more than 100 prizes, including a three-night stay in New York City, tickets to Berkshire East Mountain Resort, art made by local artists and craftspeople, and gift cards to local businesses.

Attendees can enjoy food and drinks while bidding in a live and silent auction, or bid online at bit.ly/cornucopiaauction.

Buckland considers road improvements

BUCKLAND — The Selectboard is considering applying for a Community Development Block Grant for upgrades on Ashfield Street, Bray Road, and Monroe and Kratt avenues.

During a board meeting on Oct. 28, Linda Overing from Breezeway Farm Consulting and
Mike Carter from GCG Associates presented initial ideas for improvements to the roads, including replacing aging drainage systems, widening sections of roadway and installing a sidewalk on Monroe Avenue.

The board is expected to discuss final design proposals in December.

Housing authority representative updates Selectboard on housing rehab progress

BUCKLAND — The Buckland Selectboard heard updates on how the town’s Community Development Block Grant funds are being used to support housing rehabilitation projects during a public hearing on Oct. 28.

Brian McHugh, community development director at the Franklin County Regional Housing & Redevelopment Authority, told the Selectboard that for fiscal year 2024, Buckland, in partnership with Ashfield and Colrain, received more than $1 million for the housing rehab loan program. McHugh said $110,000 in loans have been awarded for housing rehab projects in Buckland and several residents have expressed interest in loans.

Vaccine clinic coming to Hawlemont

CHARLEMONT — A flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinic will be held on Monday, Nov. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hawlemont Regional School.

Registration forms can be picked up at the school or the Charlemont Federated Church. Interested individuals must register by Nov. 7 to receive a shot. Forms can be submitted to the school nurse or to Sheila Litchfield.
