Spaghetti dinner to benefit Camp Avery
TURNERS FALLS — A spaghetti dinner will be served at the Montague Elks Lodge, 1 Elks Ave., on Sunday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. to benefit the Cub Scouts’ Camp Avery.
Cub Scouts Pack 3 and Boy Scouts Troop 5 will serve the meal. The cost is $12 by cash, check or Venmo. Guests can dine in or opt for takeout.
Puzzle swap set for Sunday
ERVING — The Erving Public Library will host an all-ages puzzle swap on Sunday, Nov. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. Attendees don’t need to bring a puzzle in order to take a puzzle.
Fiery Hope chorus to perform at Senior Center
TURNERS FALLS — Fiery Hope chorus (formerly Amandla Chorus) will perform at the Gill-Montague Senior Center, 62 Fifth St., at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13.
The chorus, founded by Eveline MacDougall in 1988, sings at a variety of venues and has previously collaborated with internationally known figures like Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai and Pete Seeger.
The performance is free and open to the public.
Juggler Meadow Band brings multi-genre music to Discovery Center

TURNER FALLS — The Juggler Meadow Band will perform at the Great Falls Discovery Center, 2 Avenue A, on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m., bringing multi-genre originals and covers to the stage.
Joe Acker, Tara Acker, Brian Rosenkranz and Rocky Strempel play music from a variety of genres, including blues, soul, roots and bluegrass. The band performs both original Americana music and covers of songs by Led Zeppelin and The Beatles.
Doors for the show open at 6:30 p.m. A sliding-scale donation of $7 to $20 is suggested. Light refreshments will be available with donations.
Family Game Night coming to The Brick House
TURNERS FALLS — The Brick House Community Resource Center, 24 Third St., will host a Family Game Night on Friday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Board games will be provided for all ages, but guests can also bring their own games. Dinner will also be served and people are asked to register with Stacey Langknecht by emailing slangknecht@brickhousecommunity.org or by calling 413-800-2496 so enough food will be available.
Essay submissions due Dec. 15
TURNERS FALLS — The Montague Elks Lodge is accepting essay submissions from Gill-Montague Regional School District students in fifth through eighth grade as part of the national Americanism Essay Contest through the Elks’ Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee. Essay submissions are due Dec. 15.
The essay theme is “What Does Service to Your Country Mean To You?” Nationally, there are prizes for first, second and third place in each age division. Winners will receive awards of $1,000, $500 and $250, respectively.
Students can get essay and contest information at their school. Essays must be submitted to the Montague Elks Lodge, 1 Elks Ave., Turners Falls, MA 01376, and questions can be directed to Linda Morey at 413-522-3145.
