ERVING — The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has identified the man who was found dead in Erving on Monday as 40-year-old Erving resident Kurt Prondecki.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. Monday, police responded to the area of the French King Highway. Upon arrival, they found a man lying near the base of a tree. Prondecki is believed to have fallen from a tree while hunting and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Northwestern District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Melissa Sippel.
Sippel, in an interview Wednesday, said Prondecki’s family knew that he was out hunting and grew worried when he had not returned home after sundown. She said the family went looking for him and called 911 after they found Prondecki lying at the base of the tree.
While no foul play is suspected at this time, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, Sippel said.
The Erving Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office are investigating Prondecki’s death.
