GILL โ A 28-year-old woman from New Hampshire was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center after the SUV she was driving rolled over on Main Road on Monday afternoon and crashed into a utility pole near the intersection with Munns Ferry Road.
Erving and Gill firefighters joined Gill and Bernardston police officers at the scene of the crash, which occurred at around 1:30 p.m. As a tumbling utility pole left wires hanging down onto the road, police and firefighters closed off a portion of the road for more than an hour while awaiting Eversource workers.
“She was driving southbound on Main Road, left the roadway, struck the telephone pole, which resulted in the vehicle flipping over,” Gill Police Sgt. John Richardson explained. “There was only one person in the vehicle, and she appeared rattled, but there are no known injuries at this time.”
Richardson said the driver was walking after the crash, but was taken to the hospital by Northfield EMS out of an abundance of caution. As of around 2 p.m., he said he was uncertain how fast the vehicle was traveling and if any charges would be filed.
“She was able to walk out and she was talking to us the whole time, so the car protected her pretty well,” he said. “Our primary concern is getting her care and making sure she’s OK.”
Even with live wires down near the road, Richardson said first responders were able to help remove the driver from the flipped SUV.
