The Four Rivers boys soccer team defeated Putney School, 4-0, to capture a River Valley Athletic League (RVAL) championship on Saturday in Greenfield.

The victory capped an undefeated season for the Otters.

Henry Schwerin, Silas Kopera, Kolin Broderick and Marley McConkey found the net for Four Rivers. Miles Retzlaff recorded the shutout in the win for the Otters.  

In the semifinal match on Oct. 29, the Otters knocked off St. Michaels, 6-0, at home. The offense spread throughout the roster, with six players registering a goal. Russell Herbert, Cooper Whitney, Jasper Greninger, Broderick, Kopera and Aiden McGuinness all found the net.

The Four Rivers girls soccer team lost to Eagle Hill, 3-2 in an RVAL semifinal match held at Four Rivers on Oct. 28. Aida Potter scored two goals for the Otters. Olivia Long held it down in net for Four Rivers.

The Four Rivers boys cross country team placed second in the River Valley RVAL championship meet held on Oct. 29 at the Academy at Charlemont. The girls team placed third. Four Rivers runners Will Polatin (19:08.11) and Oliver Bartus (19:09.72) placed first and second overall. Bea Mickus placed fifth in the girls’ race for the Otters (23:49.94).

Here are the results for the week ending on Halloween.

Sunday Scotch Doubles saw John Terault and Bob Pietraszek finish with a 106 in high single. In high triple, Missy Finn and Ed Skorupski rolled a 283.

Monday’s mixed league saw Ali Moffatt role a 100 in women’s high single and a 271 in high triple. Chris Lafreniere rolled a 131 in men’s high single and a 351 in high triple.

Tuesday’s mixed league had Nancy Purington roll a 106 in women’s high single while Mindy Goodin scored a 279 in high triple. In Men’s high single, Anthony Gutierrez scored a 133 while Steve St. Pierre notched a 289 in high triple.

Wednesday mixed league action included Jill Jablonski rolling a 104 in high single while Sam Purinton carded a 277 in high triple.

Greenfield Elks Pitch League

After matches played on October 29, leaders are as follows. Todd Goulet in first place with 16 points. In second place is Roxanne Goulet with 14 points. There is a six-way tie for third place. Tom Wondoloski, John Richarson, Buzzy Blanchard, Luigi Pederzini, Mike Koncal and Doug Houle all have 13 points.

Youth field hockey

The Greenfield juniors finished their season 14-1-1 after three victories over the weekend. Greenfield defeated Belchertown twice and also notched a win over Frontier.

Greenfield defeated Belchertown 3-1 and 5-1 before the 3-2 victory over Frontier. Charlie Lovett scored three goals while Dani Zraunig found the net twice. Savannah Thomas also scored two goals for Greenfield. Hayden Sadler and Charley Deane each chipped in with one apiece.

On Oct. 26, the Greenfield Bantam field hockey squad took down Belchertown, 7-2.

Reaghan Bernard had one goal. Ellie Galenski had one goal and one assist. Grayson Baker scored five goals with one assist from Eleanor Jones. Sydney Snape made one save in goal for Greenfield. Willow Bettencourt and Saylor Snow held down the defensive end.

Youth football

The Franklin County Bulldogs seniors lost in overtime to the Easthampton, 14-8, at Quaboag High School on Saturday.

The semifinal loss cost the Bulldogs at a chance at the Super Bowl.

The Eagles struck first scoring with a touchdown run followed by a two-point conversion to lead, 8-0.  The Bulldogs attempted to score prior to the half after Casey Burke hit Finn Coffin for 29-yards to the one-yard line, but a costly penalty led to the clock expiring.

Burke hit Coffin for a 21-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Burke hit Xaviay Reynolds for the conversion. A costly penalty in overtime doomed the Bulldogs chances. Wesley Darling led the defense, recording six tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery. Coffin had two interceptions. Burke, Reynolds, Alden Parker, and Nate Ortiz all added four tackles each.
