The spirit of the holidays is about community, family and preserving traditions. The Leverett Town Meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening Nov. 4, in the Leverett Elementary School gym could prove to call for the removal of the existing barrier that blocks access to the beloved Gordon King Christmas Tree Farm. Town Meetings are the bedrock of democracy at the local level, enabling residents to voice concerns, offer support, and foster community development. Gordon King cherished the town of Leverett and his donation was to ensure us the joy and camaraderie would be preserved as part of Leverett history.
Recently a small jewelry box was found in the rafters of the unique covered bridge named after the King’s dog MAGOO. This discovery could unfold precious memories and reignite the community spirit that Gordon King intended for Leverett when he built this bridge. Uncovering the stories and the artwork from children and families folded up in a small wooden box is a treasure from the community’s history supporting the removal of the obstruction preventing access to the local landmark .
Engaging in this process upholds the values Gordon King worked to pass on.
