In my nearly six years as a city councilor, I know how important it is to have public officials who can set aside differences and work together. Make no mistake, this is very hard to do. Especially when debating contentious issues.

Melodie Goodwin, David Mascaritolo, and Michael Terounzo have shown through their successful careers and public service that they value collaboration and are driven to solve difficult problems. I have worked closely with these School Committee candidates in my public life and applaud their achievements. Melodie has an impressive understanding of the challenges facing our children in the Greenfield Public Schools. She has fearlessly questioned the school budget, asking uncomfortable questions about spending and if it really aligns with educational results. At a critical low point for public safety in Greenfield, David volunteered to help. Over years of service, his actions have proved his sincerity and ability to tackle tough issues head on. I have served with Michael on the Ways & Means Committee for many years. He consistently does an in-depth review of the city budget, always asking integral questions. I respect his direct approach and his ability to get right at the heart of an issue.

In their public life they have asked the questions that needed asking regardless of the personal consequences. Their actions have shown us they have the character to make the hard calls and the integrity to question all sides. These are the kind of leaders our schools need. One joy of living in a small city is that our candidates are readily accessible.
