Go, Deerfield! We just scored two good-news Recorder headlines: “‘A win-win for all’: DCR acquires 262 acres of Deerfield forest for preservation” (Oct. 21) and “An investment in ‘the promise of democracy’: Deerfield celebrates 1888 Building renovations” (Oct. 10). Now on Oct. 29, at our special Town Meeting, we can triple the good news for our home team by voting “Yes” to join the state’s Climate Leaders.

As Deerfield’s Emily Gaylord co-wrote in a My Turn column, a “Yes” vote would continue our town’s “long tradition of careful planning and stewardship.” As with preserving forestland up to the Pocumtuck Ridge Trail, and repurposing the 1888 Building into our municipal offices, stepping forward on climate leadership will be another farsighted choice we residents make today for those who will live here tomorrow.

Deerfielders, please attend the meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. at Frontier School, and vote “yes” for all three climate articles. Let’s keep Deerfield in the winner’s circle.
