I am liberal in my political views, but I believe in the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution. I do not call policemen “pigs” and I have always used “Your Honor” when addressing a judge. What is happening in our country right now with ICE is illegal and violates our U.S. Constitution. The right to due process is a key legal underpinning of American democracy. It must not be thrown away. The Chicago domestic invasion recently was just that. Government militia storming an apartment building in the middle of the night, rappelling from helicopters, and rousting everyone without warrants, over half of whom were U.S. citizens, zip-tying toddlers after dragging them from their beds, forcing them all to stand half-naked and terrified on the sidewalk outside screaming and crying, is more than egregious. It is evil. And it must not be ignored.
This outrageous, fascist act by ICE smacks of Nazi Germany. The only difference is that these people were mostly people of color instead of Jewish. These illegal government acts must not be allowed to continue unchecked. Our nation was meant to be the land of the free. We are not free if the federal government can invade homes indiscriminately, apprehend everyone and handcuff young children. Due process rights should be inviolable, and they should belong to all Americans and U.S. residents.
