The Country Club of Greenfield took the 26th annual Franklin Cup this past weekend at the Crumpin-Fox Club.

The CCG beat Crumpin-Fox Club, 13.5-10.5 to retain the Cup for the second straight year.

Last year’s competition was held in Greenfield and the CCG won handily by a score of 17-7. The CFC last won in 2023.

Franklin County Bulldogs – Seniors

The Franklin County Bulldog senior team moved to 4-1 on the season with a 38-0 win over Warren-West Brookfield at Quaboag High School. 

The Bulldogs started off the scoring with a 35-yard touchdown run from Xaviay Reynolds and also collected the 2-point conversion from Casey Burke, who threw for three touchdown passes on the day. 

The Bulldogs closed out the half ahead 24-0, after Wes Darling caught two touchdown passes from Burke from 28 and 21 yards out. Darling also kicked an extra point. Reynolds added a 2-point conversion. 

In the second half, Bryce Zraunig ran for a 65-yard touchdown with PJ Brodeur catching the 2-point conversion. Finn Coffin caught a 11-yard touchdown pass to close out the scoring. 

The defense was led by Darling who had two sacks, three tackles, and a forced fumble. Zraunig and Silas Lively each intercepted passes. Burke added three tackles. 

The Bulldogs return home next Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2:15 p.m. The team will face Palmer at Vets Field. 

Franklin County Bulldogs – Juniors

Wyatt Wilkens led the junior Bulldogs team to a 16-0 win against Warren-West Brookfield, with a touchdown and a pair of 2-point conversion completions, this past weekend.

Orion Ortiz (TD) and Owen Martineau (three catches) also played well on offense for the Bulldogs while Jace Brunelle, Pheonyx Maynard, Owen Castine and Colton Rider anchored the defense.

Greenfield touch league Week 4

Tar Heels 12, Gill CC 6 (OT) – Quarterback Aaron Flythe tied the game up in regulation with a touchdown pass to Andre Lester and then found Mike Wiggins with the winning TD in overtime. Gill CC QB opened the scoring by finding Tyson Dowdy from 28 yards out to take the early lead. Derek Hellie had seven sacks on the day and Malachi Roman made several long catches in a losing effort.

Sirum 7, Blitzing Bears 7 – Sirum quarterback Parker Hickey hit Colin Cloutier for a touchdown and extra point to stake an early lead. Bears QB Evan Grams found Stephen Torres for a TD and slung it to Synclair Smith for the equalizing extra point as the game ended in a tie. Sirum defensive linemen Chucky St. Hillaire and Brody Markol applied pressure all day, while Damian Vennell was active for the Bears.

Dope Boys 38, Panthers 0 – Quarterback Gio Gonzalez threw four touchdown passes to Kayshawn Brantley and added one each to Dom Whitley and Dame Jones, to lead the way for the victors. Whitley and Jones also recorded extra points. Luis Ventua, Luis Ramos and Kalvin Roman had 10 sacks on defense. Panthers QB Jarod Hart had chemistry with Cal Daignault and Seth Aldrich with several plays and TJ Swindell had a strong game in a losing effort.

Greenfield Junior and Bantam field hockey

The Greenfield junior field hockey team went undefeated over the weekend, while the Bantam squad took its only matchup.

The junior team tied Wilbraham on Friday, 2-2, then beat Frontier (2-1) and Southwick (5-0) on Saturday and Sunday.

Dani Zraunig (three goals, assist), Charlie Lovett (two goals, assist) and Penelope Gioules (two goals, three assists) starred for Greenfield.

Hailey Sadler was also sharp in goal for the junior squad.

The Bantam team beat Wilbraham, 4-1, on Sunday following two-point performances from both Grayson Baker (two goals) and Reaghan Bernard (goal, assist).

Drive Hoops fall basketball league

Hadley, Greenfield, Hampshire and Narragansett picked up wins this past Sunday at Stoneleigh Burnham.

Hadley beat Smith Voc, 52-38; Greenfield took down Turners Falls, 59-41; Hampshire upended Easthampton, 57-40; and Narragansett beat Brattleboro, 48-38.
