St. Mary’s Women’s Club starts club year

ORANGE — St. Mary’s Women’s Club has started the 2025-2026 club year with a dinner, followed by a brief meeting to discuss the upcoming fair and programming for the year.

Thirty-six members met at the Parish Center and traveled to the She Shed in Athol, where Michelle LaBelle served them an Italian buffet. After the meal, they returned to the Parish Center, got their new program books and directory, and discussed needs for the Saturday, Oct. 11 fair, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kitchen Chair Ruth Cormier asked for workers and contributions of meat and vegetables for the fair’s beef stew. Ginette Richard volunteered to make cinnamon buns for those who arrive early, and volunteers signed up to work the various tables during the fair.

The tin can raffle center table will have at least 50 prizes available. The lottery ticket and cash raffle tickets were passed out to members, and are available after weekend Masses. The raffle drawing will start at 2 p.m.

Baked goods, including whole pies, peanut brittle, cookies, cupcakes and breads are offered, and the table of jellies, pickles and other garden preserves is popular. Hundreds of puzzles and books will be available. Cemetery and holiday boxes will be offered at the plant table and popcorn will be sold at the door. There will be a small outdoor tag sale, weather permitting, and a children’s area will have activities for kids.

Proceeds from the Oct. 11 fair will be used to fund Women’s Club activities for the coming year, including scholarships, community projects like Starry Starry Night celebrations on New Year’s Eve and Christmas lighting, and projects for the church and Parish Center. Members are currently soliciting gift cards for the restaurant gift card raffle, and gifts for the center table auction. Club members are available after weekend Masses with tickets and to collect donations.
