GREENFIELD โ€” A two-story house at 427 Green River Road is still suitable to live in after the Greenfield Fire Department extinguished a small attic fire on Thursday morning.

Homeowner Peter Sheridan noticed a problem with the electric wiring in his attic. Not long after, Mari Craig, who also lives there, noticed smoke coming from the chimney while she was out walking the dog.

Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan said the fire, which was called in at 6:54 a.m., was contained within 15 minutes by arriving crews and the house sustained minor damage. A small pile of insulation could be seen in the yard as the crews had removed it to ensure the fire didn’t extend elsewhere.

Strahan later confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical issue.
