CHARLEMONT — A 57-year-old man was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield with minor injuries after crashing his SUV into a utility pole on Route 2, near East Oxbow Road, at around 6 a.m. on Friday.

According to Massachusetts State Police, troopers from the Shelburne Falls barracks responded alongside members of the Hawley Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Wires were downed and the state highway was closed while National Grid was contacted. Motorists were detoured while repairs were being made.

“Power lines fell across Route 2, so it was closed and vehicles were detoured,” Hawley Fire Chief Greg Cox said, adding that a Hawley Fire Department crew was called just after 7 a.m. “They rerouted traffic up East Hawley Road and down through Buckland until State Police came and relieved them.”

State Police said the utility pole was replaced and the road has been reopened.
