Sept. 20: Deerfield PTA holding third annual Fall Fest
DEERFIELD — The Deerfield Parent-Teacher Association will host its third annual Fall Fest at Deerfield Elementary School on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Visitors can participate in a dunk tank, shop fall crafts from local vendors, check out emergency vehicles, sit for face painting, and enter a raffle or LEGO contest. “Chicken Poop Bingo” will also return, providing a chance for attendees to meet their neighbors’ chickens and guess which square the bird will choose as its target, at a cost of $5 per square. Attendees can also shoot hoops in the festival’s first free-throw contest.
The event is a fundraiser to benefit the school. Visitors can donate at the fair or online through a Venmo QR code on the PTA’s website, deerfieldpta.org.
Sept. 20: ‘Pete & Woody: An Unlikely Friendship’
LEVERETT — Mount Toby Friends Meeting at 194 Long Plain Road is hosting “Pete & Woody: An Unlikely Friendship” on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
The one-hour multimedia presentation created by folk singers Steve Suffet and Pat Lamanna will encourage viewers to step back into the 1940s when Pete Seeger first met Woody Guthrie. Through 15 songs performed live, 21 slides and 3,800 words of narration, the presentation will unpeel the friendship that grew between the folk musicians. According to the Mount Toby Concerts’ website, Seeger’s support of Guthrie helped explode his popularity.

Selectboard approves resignations and appointment
DEERFIELD — The Selectboard on Wednesday appointed Annette Pfannebecker to the Tri-Town Beach Commission and accepted the resignations of two library trustees.
Effective Oct. 1, Nancy Maynard and Marjorie Shearer will resign as library trustees. According to Selectboard Chair Trevor McDaniel, Maynard and Shearer will shift their focus to the Tilton Fund, the fundraising organization that supports the Tilton Library.
Selectboard applying for $350K grant for Old Deerfield sewage plant project
DEERFIELD — The Selectboard voted Wednesday to apply for a $350,000 grant through the state’s 2025 Gap IV Energy Grant Program.
According to Selectboard Chair Trevor McDaniel, the grant would help fund the roughly $989,000 remodel of the Old Deerfield Wastewater Treatment Plant on Little Meadow Road. He added the money would help kickstart the remodel into its first of three phases, including steps like updating the headworks system.
In addition to grants, McDaniel said he plans to talk to organizations and other funding sources to gather financial support and ensure the town is not faced with the entire cost.
