An impressive performance from Anya Read powered the Mohawk Trail girls cross country team to a split in a tri-meet against Hampshire Regional and Belchertown on Wednesday in Buckland.
Read traversed the 2.55-mile course in a winning time of 18 minutes, 11.6 seconds to help the Warriors defeat Belchertown, 18-39. Mohawk Trail fell to Hampshire, 21-38.
Mohawk Trail had three runners finish in the top 10 in the girls’ race. Virginia Krezmien took sixth overall in 18:54, while Natalie Lanoue finished eighth with a time of 19:28.
Frontier 15, Southwick 48 – The Redhawks swept the top five spots, powered by Louise Flagollet’s winning time of 22:26.
Liv Christensen was second in 22:45, followed by Maddie Antes (third, 23:25), Maia Christensen (fourth, 23:31) and Phoebe Radner (fifth, 23:40).
Smith Voc 15, Pioneer 50
Smith Voc 15, Turners Falls 50 – Pioneer’s Harper Hake posted a winning time of 18:08 in a tri-meet held on a 2.5-mile course in Northampton on Wednesday.
Olivia Wolbach took third place to pace Turners Falls (20:56), while teammate Amber Marcy was fourth (22:31).
The boys race didn’t have enough runners to factor into scoring, but Turners Falls’ Lucien Carlo was the overall winner with a time of 18:00.

Belchertown 25, Mohawk Trail 36
Hampshire 21, Mohawk Trail 40 – Peter Healy joined Read as individual winners for the Warriors, as he crossed the 2.5-mile course in a first-place time of 15:16.
Rex Kuoppala also finished in the top 10 for the Warriors, placing sixth in 15:57.
Franklin Tech 26, Mahar 29
Libertas 26, Franklin Tech 29
Libertas 23, Mahar 34 – William Thomas was the individual winner for Franklin Tech, posting a top time of 19 minutes, 54 seconds to pace the tri-meet on Wednesday.
Mahar’s Isiah Whitmore was the runner-up in 20:30, while Tech’s Leo McDonald took sixth (21:58) and Mahar’s Joe Burke was 10th (24:42).
Frontier 25, Southwick 31 – Evan Hedlund edged Frontier teammate Luke Howard for first place, as the Redhawks edged the Rams thanks in large part to their top duo’s impressive performance.
Hedlund crossed in 18:11.1, with Howard right behind in 18:11.5. Dean Gray took sixth for Frontier (19:11), while Adam Paul (seventh, 19:35), Hengxi Yue (ninth, 21:24) and Caleb Libbey (10th, 21:37) also scored top 10 shows for the Hawks.
PVCICS 26, Greenfield 31
Greenfield 21 Pope Francis 34 – Ryan Spofford was the runner-up for the Green Wave, posting a time of 17:40 to lead the way in a tri-meet split.
Dylan Breiwick was right behind in third place, crossing in 18:16. PVCICS’ Grafton Tolopko was the winner in 17:07.
Boys soccer
Pioneer 4, Libertas 0 – Four different Panthers tallied goals, as the club broke through for its first win of the season on Wednesday.
Dani Paquet, Brody Welcome, Tommy Clary and Matan Lerman-Smith all netted goals for Pioneer (1-5).
Frontier 3, Hampshire 1 โ Ian Paciorek netted two goals, including the eventual game winner in the 60th minute to power the Hawks to an impressive road win on Wednesday.
Scoreless at the half, Gus Radner staked Frontier to a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute before Hampshire pulled level five minutes later. Paciorek answered with the go-ahead goal off an assist from Eric Larsson, then tacked on an insurance marker in the 71st minute from Max Millette.
Jack Cusson’s five saves helped Frontier hold off the Raiders for an impressive win.
Four Rivers 8, Vermont Academy 2 – Two goals apiece from Cooper Whitney, Marley McConkey and Kolin Broderick keyed the Otters in another dominant win.
Henry Schwerin and Silas Kopera were the other goal scorers for Four Rivers.
Hampden Charter 11, Athol 1 – Drake Wing made 12 saves in the Athol net, while Jason Gerard stopped three shots in relief for the Bears on Wednesday.
Ralle Anderson scored the lone goal for Athol, with an assist from Dillon Boudreau in the 58th minute.
Granby 2, Mahar 0 – The Senators held the visiting Rams in check well into the second half before Granby broke through and ultimately tacked on an insurance goal to snag a win Wednesday night in Orange.
The game was scoreless at halftime, but Granby pumped in the eventual game-winner with 17 minutes to play on a blast from over 30 yards out. The visitors added another with just under nine minutes to go.
Golf
Franklin Tech 166, Mohawk Trail 201 – Jack Day shot 39 to lead the charge for the Eagles, which cruised to a victory at the Country Club of Greenfield on Wednesday.
Braeden Talbot was right behind with a 40 for Franklin Tech, followed by Ayron Hemingway (41) and Leo Mustante (46).
Mohawk Trail’s Conner Bergeron shot 43 to pace the hosts. Sam Mizula (50), Dean Bardwell (52) and Gus Foote (56) were the other scoring members of the Warriors.
Ludlow 145, Frontier 152 – The Redhawks posted their lowest score of the season but ran into a buzzsaw in the form of undefeated Ludlow on Wednesday.
Addy Wood (37), Jacob Cornelison (37) and Brady Wood (38) all posted strong scores to lead Frontier.
Volleyball
Greenfield 3, Mahar 2 – The top two teams in the Western League battled into the fifth set on Wednesday, where host Greenfield put it all together to secure a wild victory at Nichols Gymnasium.
Set scores were 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-4.
Julia Belville went for nine kills and six blocks to power the Green Wave (6-0), while Giomaris Collado-Bonilla and Bianca Reynolds combined for 15 digs and five aces in the win.
Mahar (4-2) was led by Hayden Comeau (10 kills, five digs), Madelynn Burgess (six kills, nine assists, four aces), Mckenzie Scribner (10 assists) and Scarleth Aranda Lebron (three kills).
Franklin Tech 3, Mohawk Trail 0 – Eight kills from Madison Pettengill lifted the Eagles to a dominant 25-14, 25-14, 25-17 sweep on Wednesday in Turners Falls.
Lily Baldwin dished out 14 assists to go with four kills and four digs, and McKenzie Stafford racked up three digs in the win.
Turners 3, Pioneer 0 – Janelle Massey paced a balanced offensive attack with six kills, and also added five digs and three aces as the Thunder swept the Panthers on Wednesday.
Set scores were 25-22, 25-18, 25-12.
Maddie Haight put down four kills, six aces and three digs, while Maddie Dietz (seven aces, eight assists, three digs, four kills), Shelby Beck (five aces, one dig) and Abby Moffatt (two aces, nine digs) also keyed the win for Turners.
Pioneer’s Kiara Gruszkowski put down four kills. Jacobia Tyminski (five kills), Abbie Ray (four kills) and Sophia Wood (13 assists) also played well.
Field hockey
Frontier 8, Turners 0 – Macy DeMaio and Isabel Orrell each scored two goals, and the host Redhawks thumped Turners in an independent contest on Wednesday in South Deerfield.
Amelia Bouchard, Haly Doucette-Kaplan, Ashlie Galenski and Rowan Reilly also found the back of the net in the win for Frontier, while Reilly and Orrell had two assists apiece.
Turners goalie Connor Glennon made 28 saves in a busy outing.
