First place finishers from the soccer shoot held last month at Franklin County Technical School, sponsored by the Montague Elks, are invited to join the next level of competition. The district championship will be held Oct. 5 at the Auburn Lodge of Elks (754 Southbridge Street in Auburn).
Check in and registration is at 9 a.m. in the backyard of the Auburn lodge. Winners will advance to the state shoot.

Field hockey
Penelope Gioules and Dani Zraunig both scored goals to send the Greenfield Juniors field hockey team to a 2-0 win over South Hadley on Wednesday.
Savannah Thomas played well in the midfield while goalkeeper Hailey Sadler made one save for the shutout.

CFC Senior Open
The team of Tim Skorka and Steve Giard shot 61 to secure low gross honors at the Crumpin-Fox Club Senior Open 2-Person Scramble on Wednesday in Bernardston.
Mark Karpiej and Richard Dinnini took second place (67), followed in third by the teams of Dave Cronin/Mike Laga and Carl Hoynoski/Jim O’Sullivan (68).
Low net winners were Al Griffin and Gary Mattesen (62). Doug Taylor and Dan Benoit tied for second with Tom Frechette and Patrick Macari (63).
Skorka and Giard captured a skin on the fourth hole.
CCG Women’s League
Terry Boyce’s plus-4 topped the first flight at the Country Club of Greenfield’s Women’s League earlier this week, as the league played a ‘Best 14 holes’ format.
Jane Smith was second (plus-6), while Linda Lively won the second flight (plus-13) just ahead of Anne Echeverria (plus-14).
In net scoring, Ann McHugh (11-under) won the first flight, followed by Barb Killeen (3-under). Julie Bailey (12-under) was the second flight low net player, and Sue Sigda was second (7-under).
In the 9 hole league, the format was ‘Best 6 holes,’ and June Heideman took first place (plus-2). Ellen Bitzer (plus-4) was second, with Christine Kuzmeskus taking low net (6-under) and Susan Parker second (4-under).
