DEERFIELD — A man was airlifted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with serious injuries Tuesday afternoon after he crashed his motorcycle near 693 River Road.

The Deerfield Police Department and the Deerfield Fire District responded to a wooded area roughly 15 feet from River Road at approximately 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, where a black sports bike had come to rest on its side. South County EMS personnel picked up the motorcyclist, who was face down next to the bike, and moved him onto a stretcher.

“It’s a serious motor vehicle crash, a single-motorcycle accident,” Deerfield Police Detective Sgt. Adam Sokoloski said. “He seems to be alright.”

Sokoloski added that the cause of the crash, as well as the motorcycle’s direction of travel and speed, are under investigation. He cautioned the public to drive safely.

“We want to remind people to drive carefully,” Sokoloski said, “and at a reasonable and prudent speed.”
