The team of Joel Tognarelli, Cole Tognarelli, Severino Simneone and Tim Warren shot 59 and captured first place in the 20th annual United Church of Bernarston Golf Tournament on Saturday at Northfield Golf Club.
Second place went to the team of Gene LaCoy, Bob LaCoy, Fred Llewelyn and Jon Snow, who shot 61. After a match of cards, third place went to Robbie Wood, Matt Grover, Michael Grover and Mike Waterman with a 62.
John Zellman was closest to the pin (13 inches), and Nate Burgess III was closest to the pin at eight feet. Sherry Demers and Cole Tognarelli smashed the longest drives on the day.
CCG YMCA Outing
The team of Joe Viadero, David Donoghue, Jay Healy and Samantha Smith shot 56 to win the Mixed Flight at the Country Club of Greenfield’s YMCA Outing on Monday.
Bob Diamond, John Shultis, Joe Butz and Al Woods were the Men’s Flight winner (57), while Nancy Donoghue, Terry Boyce, Corky Sysun and Susan Welenc won the Women’s Flight (61).
Low net winners were: Bob Diamond, Jeff Blomsedt, Joe Butz and Al Woods, as well as AJ Bresciano, Connor Merrigan, Pat Viencek and Nick Bresciano (52) in the Men’s Flight, Jeremy Johnson, John Johnson, Ryan Johnson and Maggie Valentine in the Mixed Flight (52), and Wanda Pyfrom, Michele Hazlett, Lisa Sullivan and Irene Woods in the Women’s Flight (51).
Closest to the pin winners were Peter Lapointe on No. 2 (11 feet) and Maggie Valentine on No. 15 (8-5), while closest to the line winners were John Johnson and Mary Marynuk.

Gill CC Woodworking 33, Namaste Rockets 0 – QB Pat Viencek threw for five touchdowns, two each to Tyson Dowdy and Jalen Sanders and one to Adam Bastarche, to move Gill to 2-0. Derek Helie and Tyler Hobbs played well on the line for Gill. Tyler Charboneau and Chris Arsenault played well in a losing effort.
Sirum 19, Panthers 0 – QB Parker Hickey threw a TD to RJ Byrd, and ran in for one, to lead Sirum. Brody Markol added a TD pass and an extra point to Chris Hart. Steve Duclos as well had a strong game. The Panthers got strong play from Dan Jenks and Seth Aldridge in a losing effort.
J&J Athletics 20, Blitzing Bears 0 – QB Mak Rodgers threw two TD passes to Shane Robles, and added an extra point to lead J&J to 2-0 on the season. Erik Pardee added a safety, and Brian O’Connor had a strong game. The Bears received two interceptions from Justin Velez in a losing effort, and Javier Rivera also had a strong game.
Western Mass. Tar Heels 26, Dope Boys 0 – QB Curtis Dowers hooked up with Raekwon Hubbard for two TD passes and an extra point, and added a third to Caleb Dowers to lead the Heels to victory. Alex Rodriguez added a 36-yard interception return, and Reni Baez and Luis Roman had strong games in a losing effort.
Pickleball
Deerfield tourney
The Deerfield Pickeball Group is hosting a tournament on Sept. 20 at Frontier Regional School.
Proceeds go toward the Frontier School Scholarship. There will be four play categories and prizes for each category. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and play gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
Proceeds will help support the Deerfield Pickleball Frontier Scholarship Fund.
