Another fall season means another year of the Greenfield Touch Football League, which opened its season on Sunday with a four-pack of games at Green River Park.

Gill CC Woodworking 25, Sirum 0 – QB Pat Viencek led the defending champs to a shutout, as Jalen Sanders caught two touchdown passes and Malachi Roman and Kashawn Brantley each added a score.

Alex Bourassa, Dave Watson and Dame Jones snatched INTs, while Colin Cloutier and Max Williams had strong games for Sirum.

J&J Athletics 42, Namaste Panthers 0 – QB Mak Rodgers fired touchdown passes to Trevor Thomas, Cedric Gonnet, Pat Clancy, and Mason Meadows to lead J&J. Courtney Ousley, Erik Pardee, and Gonnet added two-point extra points. Pardee racked up six sacks to pace the defense. Jarod Hart and Colby Collins had strong games for the Panthers.

Dope Boys 40, Blitzing Bears 6 – QB Marquis Goon rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Dope Boys. He added TD passes to Gio Gonzalez, Reni Baez, and Calvin Roman, and Gonzalez added the extra point. QB Kasheef Sheppard threw a 60-yard TD strike to Steve Torres in a losing effort.

Tar Heels 28, Namaste Rockets 12 – QB Curtis Dowers threw TD passes to Marc Gommes, Michael Wiggins, and Calvin Wiggins to lead the Tar Heels, while Jeff Styles and Jamal Brown added extra points. Rockets QB Max Piroshkov threw TD Passes to Lew Borden and Tyler Charboneau in a losing effort.

Youth football

Franklin County Bulldogs

The Franklin County Bulldogs Senior Division team blanked the Frontier Redhawks, 27-0, in a Suburban Amateur Football League contest on Sunday at Vets Field in Greenfield.

Bryce Zraunig scored on runs of 10 and 56 yards to pace the Bulldogs, while Casey Burke scored a 21-yard keeper to go up 21-0 at the half. The Bulldogs closed out the scoring with a 69-yard run by Zraunig.

The defense was led by Wes Darling, who had four tackles and a blocked punt. Nate Ortiz, Nick Coloumbe and Xaviay Reynolds all had three tackles, and Avery Lococo added two tackles and an interception.

The Bulldogs travel to Ludlow on Sunday.

• In PeeWee action Sunday, the Bulldogs defeated Frontier, 7-0.

In a defensive showdown by both teams, Justin Martin returned a 46-yard, pick-6 for the game’s only score of the day. Weston Hobbs ran in the extra point, and Martin led the offense with 35 yards on the ground.

Carson Colby, Cody Castine (forced fumble), Jaxcyn Sleuenwhite, and Martin led the team with three tackles each. Oliver Avery, Mason Lovett and Karson Henry each added a tackle.

Maynard Road Race

The Don Maynard Memorial Road Race returns to Greenfield in September, with the race scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20.

The race is changing from a five miler to a 5K race this year, beginning at the Greenfield Municipal Swimming Area at 9:30 a.m. Online registration is available at RunSignup.com.

Greenfield Rec League Doubles “Hat” Tournament

The “League Doubles” tournament is the traditional end-of-season tournament for the Greenfield Rec “Singles” Tennis League. Each player enters as an individual and partners are drawn.

The format is a round-robin on the first day of the tournament (Sept. 15) and then a championship match on the second day, featuring the top two point-getting teams from the round robin.

Arrive at 5 p.m. or earlier for warm-ups and play with begin at 5:30. The event is open to all players, and is free for players in the rec “singles” league ($5 entry for non-league players).

CCG Bucky Scotch

Mike Archer and Jason Kelton teamed to post a low gross score of 67, taking first place at the annual Bucky O’Brien Men’s Pinehurst Scotch over the weekend.

Will Conant and David Donoghue shot 68 to finish second, while the teams of Clint McCloud/Eric Adams and Jon Fasick/Chris Ferriter both shot 69 to tie for third.

Low net went to Michael Duclos and Roy Emerson (66). Shaun Fleming/Zachary Circosta and Terry Blanchard/Phil Reilley tied for second (67).

CFC Women’s League

Jill Waldron and Samantha Smith shot 38 to take low gross honors during a recent Crumpin-Fox Club Women’s League.

Deb Ghezzy and Susan Cook finished second (plus-2), while low net honors went to Corky Sysun and Lisa Sullivan (34). Maureen Gamlin and Chris Wysk were second in the net category (36).

Closest to the pin winners were Brittany St. Peter on No. 3 (12 feet, 3 inches) and Ellen Bitzer on No. 9 (12-6).

Timmons-Messer League

Andy Chartier and Roland Racine shot 34 to take low gross honors after a match of cards during last week’s Timmons-Messer League at Northfield Golf Club.

Tom Almstead and Rick Stempel also shot 34 and settled for second. Trevor Blake was the match medalist with a 35, while Harry Hyams and Blake snagged low net with a 23. Bob Bateman and Ed Underwood were second (24).

Closest to the pin winners were Dennis Fournier on No. 6 (5 feet, 9.5 inches) and Elton Kinsman on No. 7 (9-11).
