Our president has channeled the deep desire of my fellow Americans to get rid of woke. Woke in our politics. Woke in our culture. Woke in our economy. But what is woke?
For many, woke is the Great Replacement Theory about migration. It is overt feminism. It is acceptance of queer and transgender culture. It is a concern about ecology and a turn away from fossil fuels. Woke seems to be anything that puts human dignity over economic production, empathy over force.
So, lets look back at American history to see how woke has influenced events in the past. Abolition was woke. In fact, abolitionists had their newspapers destroyed and some were lynched because they advanced the woke idea that the exploitation of human beings to advance economic wealth was too much.
George Washington was woke. King George was not. Abraham Lincoln was woke. Jefferson Davis was not. The New Deal was woke. The Great Depression was not. Franklin Roosevelt was woke. Mussolini was not. Civil Rights was woke. Jim Crow was not. Obama was woke. Trump is not.
So, we have to decide which side we are on and what kind of country do we want to be.
The president and our tech lords seem to favor a land where we exist, and they flourish so we donโt become a woke nation. I hope itโs not too late for America to wake up again.
