I read an article that talked of the dignity promised in the Constitution, yet just as the right to bear arms can be construed as either a term of weaponry or heraldry who is “we?” We implies there is a them, but is it in national, racial, or economic terms? Who decides this? The zeitgeist? The legislative branch?
Through cohorts and groups we normalize and promote both we and them socially. It is necessary for development to establish a sense of self, family, and community. And we need to set boundaries to make sense of and to accommodate these concepts for otherwise we can’t balance ourselves from the universe. We would be over-flooded by the lack of understanding of self and community by our universe. Yet, we all exist within this vast and limitless expanse culminating in a need for understanding and appreciation for all life.
I learned in anthropology that there is 96% difference amongst race and only 4% between. This suggests a lack of separation between us despite the color of our skin, a more noticeable difference within family than community, yet as bonds are formed the farther out they go the less understanding we exhibit. But without compassion for those outside our circle of community societal entropy is inevitable. Solidarity is at the crux of our communities, nation, and world’s fortification.
