







The Mahar girls soccer team knew it was in for a challenge in its season opener on Tuesday against Quabbin.
Quabbin’s Sienna Shaw recorded a hat trick as the Panthers scored four goals in the first half to take down the Senators, 7-0.
Despite the loss, Mahar coach Chad Softic said he saw things to build on.
“It was a tough start but we also played the toughest game on our schedule so it’s good to get it out of the way,” Softic said. “I am learning a lot about the girls that you can’t [learn] in practice. I was really pleased that they kept competing for 80 minutes. We can build on it.”
Brattleboro 6, Pioneer 0 — The Panthers fell to Brattleboro on the road on Tuesday.
Boys soccer
Athol 3, Mahar 0 — Lucas L’Ecuyer scored twice and Karim Thompson added a goal as the Bears took down their rivals in Athol Tuesday.
Andrew Botti and Dillon Boudreau provided the assists and Drake Wing made seven saves in the win. Claude Thompson made 12 saves for Mahar.
Greenfield 3, Westfield Tech 3 — Trailing 3-1 at the half, Greenfield’s Jack Laurie scored twice in the second half to force a tie in Westfield on Tuesday.
Laurie also tallied in the 11th minute to complete his first career hat trick. Lucian Volosenco assisted two of the goals while Arthur Fitzpatrick added an assist for Greenfield. Liam Grahame-Lawson made eight saves for the Wave.
Brattleboro 4, Pioneer 0 — The Panthers failed to register a goal against Brattleboro on Tuesday, falling in Northfield in their opener.
Golf
Franklin Tech 162, McCann Tech 163 — Jack Day led the way with a 36 for the Eagles, which edged out a victory over the Hornets at Thomas Memorial on Tuesday.
Braeden Talbot (39), Grady Deery (43) and Mason Vassar (44) closed out the scoring for Franklin Tech.
Belchertown 159, Frontier 161 — Brady Wood led the Redhawks with a 35, though the Orioles were able to squeak out a win at Cherry Hill on Tuesday.
James Cornelison (39), Addy Wood (43) and Teddy McCarthy (44) rounded out the scoring for Frontier.
Smith Voc 184, Turners 195 — Ethan Eichorn shot a team-low 45 for the Thunder in a loss to the Vikings at Thomas Memorial on Tuesday.
Field hockey
Longmeadow 3, Frontier 2 — Macy DeMaio and Ashlie Galenski found the back of the cage for the Redhawks but the Lancers were able to slip three into the goal to earn a victory in Longmeadow on Tuesday.
Haly Doucette-Kaplan assisted both Frontier goals while Brooke Charest made six saves in the loss.
