








After falling to McCann Tech in their opening match of the season earlier in the week, the Athol golf team got into the win column on Wednesday.
Taking on Mohawk Trail at the Country Club of Greenfield, Ethan Heuer shot a match-low 34 that helped Athol secure a 157-199 triumph over the Warriors.
Owen Stoddard carded a 38, Dom St. Andre finished with a 42 while Bradley Coleman shot a 43 to round out the scoring for the Bears.
Conner Bergeron shot a team-low 46 for Mohawk Trail. Sam Mizula shot a 49 while Joei Labelle (51) and Gus Foote (53) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors.
Hopkins 175, Turners 194 — The Thunder got their season underway on Wednesday at Westover Golf Course in Granby against the Golden Hawks, with Hopkins’ Ryley Regan carding a match-low 38 to lead the Golden Hawks to victory.
Ethan Eichorn shot a 42, Cam Cogswell finished with a 46, Liam Kerivan carded a 49 while Will Tyler and Rowan Deery each shot a 57 for Turners.
Purington sinks hole-in-One
Ike Purington sank an ace at Ashfield Community Golf Course on Wednesday, doing on on the Par 4 seventh hole.
He made the hole-in-one from 185 yards out using a 4 hybrid. Ryan Pease witnessed the feat.
Pickleball
The third annual Pickleball Food Drive Tournament at Turners Falls High School took place on Saturday, raising $2,655 and collecting 251 pound of food for local charities Stone Soup and The Food Bank of Western MA.
There were 80 participants in the tournament, with John Heffernan and Tim James winning the Real Pickles 60+ Division.
Paul Croutworst and Michaelann Denton won the Hope and Olive Mixed Division, Charlie Tournmanen and Scott Dunaisky won the Main St. Bar and Grill Advanced Open Division while JoEllen Reino and Craig Cullaine won the GoNOMAD 50+ title.
