The Recorder’s recent article on the “Count the cost” walk in Shelburne Falls inflated a small event: a handful of familiar faces looping through the village in a performative gesture unlikely to sway federal policy or spark meaningful change.

Meanwhile, the town faces a serious local concern. Only 215 people have signed the petition to remove Detective Tucker Jenkins in a town of roughly 3,400 residents. A significant portion of the population includes youth, who are particularly affected by this case. Have any of the daisy-chain or other vocal local activists added their names?

If we truly care about our community, it’s time for residents to move beyond gestures and engage with the issues that directly affect the town.
