I’ve stopped paying federal taxes. There are two reasons for this. The first is visceral: I gag whenever I consider writing a check to Donald Trump’s federal government. The second is more rational: we are now in a situation of taxation without representation. Government funds are being used to openly flout existing laws. Trump and his Congress are all oath breakers, who daily disregard their duty to uphold the Constitution. Why would I put one dollar into their coffers? I know this could impact my credit rating and my social security. This post also flags me as someone who is openly breaking the law, and if Trump furthers his consolidation of dictatorial power, it could someday result in retaliation. There may be other consequences I’m not aware of. I don’t care.
Our Founding Fathers put their lives and livelihoods on the line so that I could live in freedom. What I am staking is much less than what they did. All of us who love freedom must dare as much as we can.
