Moving toward EV use
Especially in these fraught times when common-sense environmental initiatives are under attack from the Trump administration, it is heartening to see Massachusetts cities acting to fight climate change and embrace intergenerational responsibility. Reducing Greenfield’s reliance on internal combustion engines is an important step towards freeing ourselves from the economic and political entanglements which are an unavoidable part of fossil fuel dependency.
Electric vehicles are far more reliable (with vastly fewer moving parts than comparable conventional cars, trucks, and buses), quieter, and better for the environment in every respect. Conversely, petroleum-burning engines have adverse environmental impacts throughout their operating lives, whether it’s greenhouse emissions causing global warming, or public health impacts from particulate pollution and carbon monoxide. We should relegate the internal combustion engine — and indeed the entire oil, gas, and coal energy economy — to the dustbin of history. Greenfield is doing the right thing for its citizens, now and in the future.
