Truck rollover closes Route 116 in Ashfield, injures two occupants

ASHFIELD — Two occupants of a maroon Dodge Ram pickup truck were taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield on Tuesday after the vehicle struck a utility pole on Spruce Corner Road (Route 116) and rolled over, according to Ashfield Police Chief Beth Bezio.

The crash occurred shortly before noon near Spruce Corner Road’s intersection with Route 112. The impact severed the utility pole at the base, leaving it leaning over the roadway suspended by the wires and creating a hazard. The road was closed while first responders and Eversource crews worked.

Responding agencies included the Ashfield Police and Fire departments, the Goshen Police Department, the Plainfield Fire Department, Highland Ambulance, Conway Ambulance and South County EMS. Rescue Towing and Recovery of Hatfield was called to remove the truck.
