Aug. 5: ‘Herbal Approach to Seasonal Allergies’

GREENFIELD — Greenfield community herbalist Patti Williams will host “Herbal Approach to Seasonal Allergies & Upper Respiratory Conditions” at the Greenfield Senior Center on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

This free workshop will cover herbal treatments to strengthen immunology and ease seasonal allergies and respiratory ailments. Williams will discuss how an allergic response is a symptom of deeper imbalances in the kidneys, liver and lymphatic systems. After the presentation, there will be ample time for questions. A variety of herbal products will be available for purchase (cash only).

Williams has been practicing herbalism in Greenfield for more than 10 years and is the creator of Earthcraft Botanicals. She is a graduate of the Boston School of Herbal Studies and has been a guest teacher for its Apprenticeship Program.

GCC professor emeritus to detail ‘hidden deep history’

GREENFIELD — The geological history of Greenfield and the vicinity can explain many aspects of the commonly seen landscape. The Greenfield Public Library will welcome Greenfield Community College Professor Emeritus Richard Little on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. for “Greenfield’s Amazing Hidden Deep History.”

Little, who came to Greenfield from California in 1969, has written two books about local and regional geology. He will bring rare Jurassic armored mud balls for attendees to see and touch, as well as books that will be for sale.

Brown bag program returns Aug. 7

GREENFIELD — The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts’ monthly brown bag program for income-qualifying seniors will be held at The Weldon apartments at 54 High St. on Thursday, Aug. 7, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

GREENFIELD — Residents of all towns are welcome to the Memory Cafe, sponsored by The Arbors at Greenfield, on Friday, Aug. 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Senior Center.

The Memory Cafe provides a supportive gathering place for people living with memory loss, together with their caregivers. Lunch is provided, followed by an activity.

Explore a career as a community health worker

GREENFIELD — Those who are interested in exploring or preparing for a career as a community health worker are encouraged to visit the Greenfield Public Library on Monday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. or Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon to meet members of the Massachusetts Rural Workforce Training Network.

The Massachusetts Rural Workforce Training Network will offer information and answer questions about a free training program to become a community health worker. The network is an educational collaborative with a goal of promoting the community health worker profession across rural areas of Massachusetts. A new round of trainings will begin in September at no cost for those living and/or working in Franklin County.

GREENFIELD — Seniors are invited to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) shows up in everyday life, how it can be used to their advantage and why it’s not just for the younger crowd during a program at the Greenfield Senior Center on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Presenter Rich Vaden is the digital navigator with United Way of the Franklin & Hampshire Region. He provides one-on-one tech help at the Greenfield Senior Center and other locations.
