
Raine Wonsey struck out 14 in six innings of work, helping sixth-seeded Menace edge No. 3 Magic, 3-2, in a Franklin County Summer Softball League quarterfinal round playoff contest on Wednesday at Murphy Park.
Wonsey allowed just three hits and two runs (none earned), walking five. Wonsey also walked three times at the plate and had an RBI double for Menace, which scored the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning. Rileyanne Tine also doubled to aid the offensive effort.
Magic’s Emily Kajka also pitched a gem, matching Wonsey with 14 strikeouts in a complete-game outing. Corinne Charlebois and Samantha Suhl both singled and scored a run in the loss.
Kells Junior Scramble
Connor Howe and Tyler Phillips posted a low gross score of 67, taking first place in the Junior Flight of the Country Club of Greenfield’s Kells Junior Scramble on Wednesday.
Blake Waidlich and Parker Gerry shot 77 to nab second place, while the teams of Liam Kerivan/Camden Cogswell and Bryce Zraunig/Casey Burke tied for third (85).
In the Senior-Junior Flight, Ryan MacGregor and Mateo Quenneville shot 64 to lead the way, followed by Adam Howe and Austin Dono (65). David Carlino and Joey Abderhaleen were third (68), with Owen Chamberlain and Evan Carlson snagging low net honors (51).
The Upper Linksters Flight (three holes) was won by the team of Eleanor Reid and Lucy Reid (20), while Middle Linksters Flight champs were Johanna Butynski and Aubrey Chamberlain (18). The pairing of Palmer Lapachinski and Kendyl Lapointe shot 22 to win the Lower Linksters Flight.
Upper Little Linksters Flight winners were Chipper Hogue and Joey O’Hara (16), Middle Little Linksters Flight winners were Parker Butynski and Paxton Molnar (17), and Mixed Linksters Flight winners were Elle Galenski and Eric Galenski (20).
Thomas Women’s League
Sally Malloy set the pace with a low gross round of 41 at Wednesday’s Thomas Memorial Women’s League in Turners Falls.
Cindy Scully recorded the low net score (24), and Jen Corridan was closest to the pin at No. 7 (4 feet, 2 inches).
Knights of Columbus League
Bill Chalmers bested the field in Wednesday’s Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls, as he posted a plus-9 point quota.
Bob Wondoloski and Ken Adams tied for second with plus-8 quotas. Bob Bourbeau and John O’Rielly both shot 36 to share low gross honors, while O’Rielly (two), Bourbeau and Ed Baker took home skins.
Closest to the pin winners were Rusty Demers on No. 7 (5 feet, 6 inches) and Rod Herzig on No. 9 (13-4).
CFC Women’s League
Jill Waldron led the way with a 5-under score during last week’s Crumpin-Fox Club Women’s League in an ‘everything but the putts’ format.
Sam Smith and Michele Burch tied for second at 4-under, while Barb Baldwin won the low net (17-under) and Michelle Lawler was second (16-under).
Ellen Bitzer was closest to the pin on No. 3 (5 feet, 3 inches) and Lawler was closest at No. 9 (7-4).
